I am amazed at the number of agencies that have law enforcement. These law enforcement officers seem to have very little in the way of authority. An individual agency could easily order a movement of soldiers in order to enforce some aspect of what the agency is trying to regulate. What prevents an agency from moving armed forces into an area under the guise of thinking that someone was breaking one of their regulations? Outside the agency, there is very little accountability.

Perhaps to the point of Dr. Clauson’s recent posts, organziations (including governements) are prone to drift in their mission. A recent book: Mission Drift http://www.peterkgreer.com/mission-drift/

The number of agencies that have law enforcement is startling, but the main problem that I see pointed out in this article is that many times it is the dollars from tax-payers that is supporting these “Mission Creep” agencies! I believe that the people should be told where their tax dollars are going, and the fact that I have never even heard of many of these law enforcement agencies means that tax-payers are not informed on what they are spending their money.

I agree! People should be aware of where their tax money is going. All we know is that they are taking more and more, and where it is going is a mystery to us. Several of the “Mission Creep” agencies don’t even sound familiar and that is only a partial list. That is a lot of agencies with law enforcement operations! I think Americans should be more aware of what the government is doing with our tax dollars, it gets ridiculous. When will the line ever be drawn?

It’s completely alarming to see exactly where tax dollars are ending up. I think if people really saw that, they would have much different opinions about tax and the ideas affiliated within taxing. There were a lot of these law enforcement categories that I had no idea what they were, which is startling to believe that I am probably in the same boat as most Americans.
